Inspired by the book by the same name, this piece features the beautiful red rock landscape of Arches National Park in Moab, Utah. This is the site where Edward Abbey - park ranger, environmentalist and writer - was inspired to write Desert Solitaire and it was the first thing I purchased once I visited having understood why it inspired him so much. I too was incredibly inspired.
This panoramic mixed media painting contains layers of recycled papers and acrylic paints, local vintage ephemera (images of pictographs, Native Americans indigenous to the are, local fauna/flora, stamps, etc.) and my photography of the red rock landscape from Arches to create a vintage inspired original.
